The ways our world could end tomorrow

These are the most likely scenarios that could happen

1>A proxy war between the world powers escalates into a full blown nuclear war . Neither side is willing to back down. The war doesn't stop until near total annihilation of both sides. Regardless of whether a nuclear bomb is dropped on your country or not, the nuclear fall out of  a war on such a scale, will affect the entire world. All future generations would be born with genetic defects. This could lead to the eventual loss of intelligence and the dying out of the entire human species. The whole process could take less than a few hundred years.

2>If a flu virus with the survival instinct of HIV emerges, such that it keeps the host healthy and oblivious long enough to be able to transmit but not too long, it is just a matter of few years that most humans get wiped out. How ever such a scenario may not lead to the total destruction of humans. There are un contacted tribes of people (Sentinelese people for example). Due to their isolation from mainland humans, they might survive such an event. (It is possible that the existing humans today survived such an event 70,000 years ago)

3>Eruption of the super volcano in yellowstone national park.  This super volcano which spans the area of the whole yellow stone national park, has a history of erupting every 600,000 years or so. The last one was around 640,000 years ago. According to the scientists the next eruption is already overdue. This could even be tomorrow! If this happens, most of North America would be wiped out. The resulting ash and debris released into the air by this unimaginably gigantic volcano, would block out the sun for the entire planet. This would lead to destruction of harvest and a global cooling of about 10 degree Celsius. Mankind would survive but the world wouldn't the same anymore.

Have we been visited by Aliens?

Based on archaeological findings, we have an idea on the history of evolution. We know about the Dinosaurs and the creatures that came and left before and after them. But what seems interesting is that every dominant creature rules for a few million years and then gets wiped out to make way for the next. This leads me to two questions
1> Is the whole earth an alien experimental ground?
2> Are we next?

Life on earth developed into complex forms about 3.5 Billion years after its formation. So keeping in mind that the universe is 14 Billion years old, it is possible that intelligent life forms developed else where in the universe about 3.5 Billion years after it formation, which is about 10 Billion years ago. Even if a handful of these survived (looking at the enormous size of the universe, it is very probable) beyond wars and asteroids, they would be 10 Billion years ahead of us in technology! My tiny brain can't even begin to imagine what that technology would be like. What I feel is that, earth was visited by Aliens at around 4 Billion years ago and then started this experiment, where the visiting aliens released these DNA programmed creatures into the earth and saw how it played out. And time to time, they do a reset by wiping out the dominant species for the next stage of the experiment to begin. Like the robots we build are not aware of our presence, similarly is it possible that the creatures on earth are not intelligent enough to recognize this higher power? Or is it that humans had an inkling of this higher power which led to the misguided creation of the religions? Maybe the aliens are not even physical beings. Its probably an existence that influences our physical world but has no physical form that we understand.

Some  random facts that support my theory
  • Our only purpose in life seems to be the replication of our DNA and the traits that were introduced in us over history due to the influence of our DNA (If you think about it, the creatures, the various cultures, none of it would had existed, had it not been for the existence of DNA).
  • Human ancestors were like any other animal. Then around 100,000 years ago  the creature that was barely distinguishable from the other animals, started increasing its intelligence at an exponential pace. Fast forward into the present, we fly to space and land on the moon.  A change like that in 100,000 years is instantaneous in relation to the 3.8 Billion years of the evolution of life. It seems plausible that an external catalyst could have been present.

Is all future destiny?

All matter is ultimately composed of atoms (which in turn is composed of sub atomic particles, which in turn is a concentrated form of energy). Humans like anything else is a configuration of atoms.  Everything we do, is the atoms in us following laws of physics. You keep two oxygen atoms together, they combine to form O2. You introduce some other atom into the picture, there would some preset predictable interaction there too. Put many of them together in a particular order, they form single celled living organism. Every single thing we do, including me typing is an interaction of the tiniest building blocks of matter and pure energy. All our future including who you would meet tomorrow and where you will go is probably preset based on laws of inter atomic interactions.  Good and bad can be thought of as a formation of atoms in our brain (so called perception) due to an interaction with the  atoms/energy outside the brain.

If everything is purely inter atomic/energy interaction, then all future is destiny.

Predictions for 2100 AD

If no major catastrophic event occurs over the next couple of centuries, in my opinion, this is in store for us in 2100 AD.

Poverty has been eliminated from the world. Every kid is born into a world where he/she is assured a fair shot at a happy life.

Medical technology would have advanced enough to stop if not reverse aging.

We have the technology to alter our genes to increase our physical and mental strength.

A complete accurate simulation model of the human biology exists. This means new medicines could be instantly tested on these virtual humans and released into markets overnight. Thus avoiding the lengthy 5 year wait that exists today.

For sporting/adventure purposes we have special suits that give us super human strength. You could probably flatten a full grown elephant with a single punch when wearing that suit.

Surgeries are performed by microscopic tiny remotely controlled robots that are released into a person's blood stream. These tiny robots could be carried around in a container in your pocket. As soon as you hurt yourself, you inject these into your body. These robots scurry through your body looking for abnormalities. Having found one, they communicate with their nearest command center. Then a super computer analyzes their findings and tells them how to fix it. If the robots lack the material to fix it, depending on the urgency of the situation, tiny flying robots are dispatched to the site, that deliver the required material.

Scientists have figured out how to take a snapshot of the electrical signals in a person's brain and back it onto external drives. This gives the ability to restore a person's memory to a point back in time.

Virtual reality becomes indistinguishable from the real world. What is shown in the movie "The Thirteenth Floor"  is not fiction anymore.

Extensive underground magnetic levitation railway network can transport you to any part of the world in a fraction of the time taken today. You could travel from New York to Hong Kong in 20 minutes. These trains are controlled and managed by network of quantum computers with 100% track record of safety. Sitting through hours of traffic jams is a thing of the unimaginable past.

The boundaries between different countries have become more and more blurred. People can easily travel to and live in any part of the world. We have turned into a truly global society. We have finally come to realize that we can either work together to colonize the infinite universe with infinite resources or kill each other for peanuts on earth.

We have learned to harvest the energy of nuclear fusion. We have also started mining asteroids for minerals. We have an abundant supply of energy and resources. Owning just one house is now considered as extreme poverty.

We have automated machines controlled by a network of quantum super computers doing most our jobs.  From keeping our homes and offices clean, to delivering mail, to the manufacturing jobs, they take care of everything that can be automated. Since robots do most of our jobs, 6 months of vacation is a norm.

Space tourism has become very popular. You might celebrate your marriage anniversary on Europa (one of Jupiter's moons)  and birthday on Mars.

An Advanced alien civilization has been confirmed in a planet within our galaxy. We have sent our space probes to study them in detail. The probes are expected to reach there in 50,000 years. We are eagerly waiting for images and videos to be transmitted back to earth.

People have been living on Mars for more than fifty years. That is a story of the past. Now humans are looking to colonize habitable planets around distant stars within our Milky way galaxy. In fact many spaceships with humans have already been dispatched towards multiple distant stars with habitable planets. Who knows what would become of their descendants a few million years from now. How different they will become?

Future of humanity

What we are today is 3.8 billion years of evolution. A natural question arises, how is it 3.8 billion years when humans have been around for only 2 million?? Most people tend to forget that we didn't just drop from heaven 2 million years ago.  Although humans have been a separate species just for 2 million years we had ancestors, who themselves had ancestors all the way back to beginning of life. So every living creature out there today, including ourselves are all 3.8 billion years of evolution.
Now that we have established that, lets look at what we have been taught over the past 3.8 billion years. In the past our survival was ensured by our native emotions. The emotional part of our brain commanded when to run and when to fight. Every aspect of our behavior was controlled by emotions. All that began to change a few thousand years ago, when humans developed the intelligence to form civilizations. The intelligent part of the brain (neocortex) has grown at a pace way faster than the emotional part of our brain (amygdala) could keep up. So the result is, we humans still follow our innate instincts and try to eliminate others to ensure our own survival. In the past this was done by throwing spears at the neighboring tribes, now it has evolved into a form called racism and nationalism, which all people are equally guilty of.
Humans are so caught up in eliminating each other that we forget, what we are fighting for on earth, is nothing compared to what is out there. Consider this, our entire solar system excluding the sun, forms less than 1% of the Sun's mass. Our sun itself is one of 10 raised to 22 stars (that we know of) out there. So that means if we distribute the stars in the known universe, equally among all the humans, every one gets more than a trillion stars!! That compared to the wealth and resources on earth, is infinite.
Instead of destroying each other what we need to do is to come together as humans and work towards colonizing the space. Once we start working together on the space colonization and fending off alien threats (which could be an exploding super nova or an aggressive alien species), we will realize that we are actually really short of people.
